Mark Phang

With over 25 years of experience in Human Resources, Mark Phang has built a career in leading and supporting HR functions across a variety of sectors, with a focus on organizational development and strategic transformation. His experience includes 10 years of managing regional teams and projects across Asia Pacific, covering countries such as Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, Philippines, India, China, Myanmar, Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Australia.

Mark has held leadership roles including Regional Head of Human Resources for several multinational corporations and has also served as a Senior Consulting Manager with two HR consulting firms. His areas of focus include organizational design, change management, employee assessment and development, talent acquisition systems and processes, job evaluation, succession planning, and manpower planning.

He is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Management at University Putra Malaysia, having previously earned a Master of Business Administration and a Bachelor of Science in Human Resources from the University of South Alabama.

    – Set up the HR function for a specialist event management company.
  • HR Strategy & Policy Development: 
    – Reviewed and developed HR processes, employee policies, and development plans for a shared services center of an international media company.
    – Designed and implemented the HR strategy and change management plan for a major sugar refinery in Malaysia.
    – Reviewed employee policies across five countries for a global telecommunications firm.
  • Change Management: 
    – Led the change management efforts for MFRS 9 and MFRS 17 implementation for four major insurance companies in Malaysia.
  • Talent Systems & Succession Planning: 
    – Led talent acquisition systems and process implementation across 8 countries in Asia for a global engineering services firm.
    – Designed talent assessment and development initiatives for a strategic developer in Iskandar Malaysia.
    – Led succession planning assessment and program design for a major Malaysian bank.

KEY RECOGNITIONS AND ACHIEVEMENTS:

  1. The Ministry of Human Resources Malaysia appointed him as a panel member representing employers in the Malaysia Industrial Court for three terms, from January 2010 to December 2019.
  1. In his role at ABB Malaysia, Mr. Davis Chung led significant initiatives:
    • Project Lead Change Management – Communication for Asia Pacific ABB during the Global Human Resource Transformation and Shared Services phase (2016-2017).
    • Project Lead for ABB Malaysia in the HR Transformation to Shared Service Centre, collaborating with regional teams.
    1. Within the Panasonic Group of Companies Malaysia, Mr. Chung focused on Human Rights:
      • He formulated policies and standard operating procedures (SOPs) related to Foreign Migrant Workers.
      • Collaborated with Panasonic CSR Japan and the International Organization of Migration (IOM) under the United Nations (UN).
  • In-depth knowledge and experienced:

      1. Represent companies and handling trade union in deals with collective agreement, industrial dispute, and engagement
